7 Reasons to Buy a Home: Here's #3

October 21, 2011

By Heather Cole Gwinnett Daily Post: Homesource Owning a home gives you freedom!  Just yesterday I got the overwhelming  desire to redo my upstairs bathroom.  I knew that I had the paint just sitting there in the garage and I was so tired of looking at the boring wallpaper - yes wallpaper! - on the walls that I proceeded to tell my two year old that we were going to go and do something FUN!  Of course, what that really meant was he was going to help me pull paper down off of the walls.  It's a good thing that when you are two - anything you can do to help is exciting!   I was able to do all of that without asking permission from anyone - my parents, a landlord - because the house belonged to us.  It is our house and that option, to make our house into a real home, is truly freeing. I remember living in an apartment years ago and trying to do everything that I could, within reason, to make it my own.    However, despite all of the little nuances (which were easy to change when I moved out), it still only felt like it was partially mine. If you're a gardener, you can turn your backyard into an oasis with a deck overflowing with plants and space for dining under the trees that you have planted.  Or, if you're a photographer, you can fill your home with pictures of all your amazing adventures.  Whatever it is you choose to do, it is just the simple thrill of knowing that you can!
