Tips for Spooktacular Trick-or-Treating

October 21, 2021

Want to make sure this year’s trick or treating goes scary smooth? Check out these tips to help create a fun and spooktacular environment in your neighborhood this Halloween.

Set it Up

Deciding on a designated time for trick-or-treating in your neighborhood has many benefits. Establishing a time for this event will not only help keep the car traffic to a minimum through your community during those hours. Also, it will help curate memories for your little participants since all the neighborhood trick-or-treaters will be out during the same timeframe.

Every Light in the House…

Avoid delays and awkward encounters by setting up guidelines that will let your trick-or-treaters know which homes will be participating in the night’s events. A straightforward way is to require the participating homes to have their front porch/patio lights on while the other homes keep their front exterior lights off. Another way is to put a balloon on each home that is welcoming your trick-or-treaters.

Keep it Sweet and Safe

There are many ways to keep this Halloween tradition fun and safe for all participates. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this goal is to be aware of any food allergies that might impact some of your trick-or-treaters. One way you can alert your neighbors of an at-risk participant is through a teal treat sack. The Teal Pumpkin Project is a great movement to make Halloween safe for all trick-or-treaters. Want to be creative and safe with the offerings at your door? Try handing out items that are not food-based. These items can be any small festive toys easily found at stores in your local area.
